This amazing map shows Africa as it was known in the 17th Century.
Illustrations at the top of the map show some of the important
places of the continent, including Tangiers, Tunis and Mozambique,
whilst along the sides of the map are depictions of Africans in indigenous dress.

The islands neighbouring Africa are faithfully shown, and given the names
that they were known by then, such as 'The Fortunates Iles' for the Canaries.

As well as showing place names, rivers, mountains, deserts and lakes,
the names of tribes are given on the map, as are comments,
such as 'here the Amazons are sayd to inhabite',
which justs adds to the character of this stunning piece of history.
