Wroxton Abbey

near Banbury, Oxfordshire - North family

"This place formerly belonged to canons regular of St Augustine, but the original buildings having been destroyed by fire, the present extensive and very noble mansion was erected on its site, about the commencement of the seventeenth century.

The family of North descends in the male line from William Doyle, of Clonmoney, in the county of Carlow, whose eventual successor, Colonel John Sidney Doyle, MP for Oxfordshire, married, in 1835, Susan, Baroness North, daughter of the third Earl of Guildford. He assumed, in 1838, the surname of North in lieu of his patronymic."
