"The house is built of stone from the Moreton quarries on Mow Cop, and presents a very handsome appearance, having a square tower in the centre, and many smaller towers and turrets of various forms.

George Ackers, born 1788, married Harriet Dell in 1811, second daughter of Henry Hutton of Leicester. Their son, George Holland Ackers, Lieutenant-Colonel of the Queen's Own Staffordshire Regiment, and served as High Sheriff for the County in the year 1852."
