"David Perceval, Lord of the Manors of Tykenham and Rolleston in the county of Somerset, married Alice, daughter of Thomas bythemore, of Overwere, and dying in 1534, his second son to survive, George Perceval, married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Edward Bamfylde, of Poltimore. Their grandson, Sir Philip Perceval, at his death in 1647, was suceeded by his son, Sir John Perceval, who was created a Baronet of Ireland in 1661.

The fifth Baronet, also named Sir John, an MP for several years in the Irish House of Commons, was raised to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Perceval of Burton, Co. Cork, in 1715, and further was created Viscount Perceval of Kanturk in 1722. In 1732 he obtained a charter to colonise the province of Georgia in America, and then was advanced to the Earldom of Egmont in 1733."
