Wycombe Abbey

near Wycmobe, Buckinghamshire - Lord Carrington

"The situation of this seat is peculiarly happy, on the banks of the river, near the town, from the sight of which it is completely screen by beautiful groves. The grounds are extensive, and laid out with much taste, their effect being considerably heightened by an ornamental sheet of water.

Robert Smith, born 1752, was elevated to the Peerage of Ireland in 1796 as Baron Carrington, of Bulcot Lodge, and to that of Great Britain in 1797 as Baron Carrington of Upton, Nottinghamshire. He was Captain of Deal Castle, and his son, Robert John, took the surname of Carington by sign manual in 1839."
